Sunrise at Iztaccíhuatl
Book up to 12h before while spots last
3 spots left for tomorrow's departure. Don't wait.
Iztaccíhuatl — "sleeping woman" in Nahuatl — is Mexico's third-highest volcano at 5,230 masl. This last-minute trip takes you to El Pecho (4,100 masl) for the most jaw-dropping sunrise you can imagine just two hours from CDMX: Popocatépetl is venting fumaroles right beside you as the sun breaks over the Valley of Puebla. We leave before dawn — no drama.
The route starts at La Joya (3,980 masl) and climbs a well-marked trail to the El Pecho viewpoint. Naranja Tours has been running this route since 2020 with CONANP-certified guides. Groups are small — maximum 10 people — so the experience feels real, not like a tourist parade. Bring your boots; they bring everything else.

The mountain and the full route are shown above — nothing about the hike is hidden. You get all of it the moment payment is confirmed.

The sunrise literally left us speechless. The guide (Rodrigo) is incredible — he explains the geology, the history, and makes you feel safe the whole time. The van left right on time at 4:30 and the breakfast at the summit was an unexpected surprise. For what we paid it was ridiculous value. We're going back in winter for sure.

Went solo and ended up making great friends. The small group makes all the difference — it's not a parade of 40 people. The trail is demanding (120 m elevation gain from La Joya) but the guide goes at everyone's pace. Show up on time, bring extra layers, and he knows the mountain by heart. The best way to see Iztaccíhuatl without needing days of logistics.
